The Nuclear Medicine department has been functioning on an academical level since 2004 and on a clinical level since 2007. The department participates in the educational courses of the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Thessaly, as well as in the clinical and research activities of the University Hospital of Larissa, conducting all the in-vitro and scintigraphic (SPECT) examinations of Nuclear Medicine.

Research Activities

Clinical evaluation of the neurotransmitter/hormone levels as indices of the psychokinetic status of post-traumatic patients.

Measurement of ghrelin and adiponectin levels in patients with bronchial asthma.

Measurement of ghrelin and adiponectin levels in patients with heart failure.

Measurement of S-100A levels in patients with idiopathic infectious bowel diseases.

Measurement of S-100A levels in patients with automatic subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Brain Perfusion SPECT studies with mapping of Broadmann areas in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and Frontotemporal Dementia”.

Correlation of prognostic parameters after heart exercise testing with myocardial perfusion SPECT findings in diabetic patients.

Application of brain SPECT using new radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis, monitoring and assessment of treatment response in patients with Parkinson’s Disease.

Investigation of the incremental diagnostic and prognostic parameters that myocardial perfusion (SPECT) imaging provides, using new 99m-Tc radiolabelled pharmaceuticals in specific patient groups (e.g. patients after coronary revascularization, diabetic patients).

Correlation of gene expression in patients with coronary disease with myocardial perfusion (SPECT) findings.

Development and clinical application of a 3D dose calculation and internal dosimetry software for nuclear medicine patients.
